Jan. 19 (UPI) — State and native transportation departments around the Usa are suffering to maintain roads clear of snow this winter, as staffing shortages and organizational red tape make it more difficult to hire and preserve plow drivers.
Montana is missing half of its temporary drivers this 12 months. As of early December, the Pennsylvania Division of Transportation had hired simply 40 % of its standard seasonal workers. And in Kansas Town, Mo., transportation officials are scrambling to onboard new plow drivers to fill a 30 percent gap within the workforce.
