Opposition candidate Xiomara Castro holds big lead in Honduras election

Nov. 29 (UPI) — Middle-left competition candidate Xiomara Castro on Monday appeared poised to win the presidential election in Honduras with greater than 53% of the vote, election officials introduced.

The Nationwide Electoral Council stated that with 51% of the vote counted as of mid-day Monday, Castro had tallied just about 962,000 votes to 607,000 for Nasry Asfura of the ruling Nationwide Birthday Party, the Spanish news company EFE suggested.
