Jason Van Dyke, Chicago officer who killed Laquan McDonald, wins early release

Feb. 3 (UPI) — Jason Van Dyke, the previous Chicago police officer who used to be convicted in the shooting dying of Laquan McDonald, was released from jail Thursday after serving slightly greater than three years.

McDonald’s death spurred protests and requires top reforms in the Chicago Police Department. Van Dyke, who used to be convicted of 2nd-level homicide, served approximately half his 81-month sentence.
