PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A pregnant teenager is fighting for her life and a young man is also hurt after a double shooting in West Philadelphia.
Detectives call the shooting targeted. But officers aren’t sure exactly which victim was the intended target.

“It’s just a sad situation,” Philadelphia Police Capt. John Walker said.
A bullet-ridden SUV is where police say a 19-year-old woman was riding in when she was shot in the chest and hip.

It happened at 46th and Market Streets just before noon on Friday. Police say the young woman, who is two months pregnant, is now in critical condition.
A 21-year-old man, also in the SUV, was hit once in his left arm.
“It appears somebody knows he’s coming through this area at this time, standing on the sidewalk and shoots at the car,” Walker said. “It’s dangerous. Any time you’re shooting at a moving target, it’s difficult for the best shooters.”
Police pulled over the SUV for speeding over at 46th and Spruce Streets. That’s where the victims told officers they were rushing to a nearby hospital. Neighbors in the area were shocked to see the crime scene.
“It is heartbreaking,” a neighbor said.

“Definitely too many guns on the street, too easy for people to get guns and it doesn’t solve anything,” Lorna Howley said.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney spoke about the city’s gun violence problem earlier Friday, pointing some of the blame at Harrisburg.
“Our governor is doing his best. The legislature is owned by the NRA outside of Philadelphia and they do whatever they want,” Kenney said.
Eyewitness News found that 20 females have been victims of homicides in Philadelphia this year to date.
That’s slightly less than this time last year but still higher than pre-pandemic years, according to data from police.
Meantime, officers recovered a 42mm handgun after the double shooting in West Philadelphia.
“We’re not quite sure if that gun was fired or who owns that particular gun,” Walker said.
